Girl in the Mirror
A girl looks in the mirror
And cries inside.
She feels she’s not enough
Next to the photoshopped lies.
A boy breaks his arm
And stifles his tears.
He’s been told,
Emotions,
Are never to appear.
A woman downloads apps
In order to find
The love story she was told
Is a requirement of the time.
A man marries a woman
That he has never loved.
Because, he was told
His sexuality was a fraud.
A person slits their wrist
In privacy, alone,
Because they were told
Therapy is not condoned.
These stories,
You notice,
We do not hear.
The system hides them
From both our eyes
And our ears.
It feels like a game
That they’ve trapped us inside,
Where they’ve shaped all the rules
To design our demise
